History of Orem
Until 1914, Orem was known as Provo Bench. At this time, it
was renamed after Walter Orem, the president of the railroad
that passed through town. Initially growth was slow due to a
less than desirable water supply. In 1935, however, the Deer
Creek Dam and Reservoir were built improving the water for
Orem. Since that time until the present, Orem has grown
tremendously. It is a retail and industrial center and it
well-known for its fruit orchards. Orem was once known as
Sharon. The settling of Orem: 1861
